Collection: 2023 Classical Disruption

In the Classical Disruption series, I explore the tense interrelationship between past and present. Each painting begins with a peaceful classical landscape or still life, which is then disrupted by modern elements that suggest the chaotic intrusion of contemporary life and consumption into the timeless idylls of the past. The dripping paint symbolizes the spillover of modern influences and the often messy interaction between tradition and progress. Using bright pink and expressive blobs superimposed over pastoral scenes and tranquil fruit arrangements, I aim to provoke reflection on the evolving nature of our relationship with food, nature, the environment, and value systems. Questions of sustainability, consumerism, and our deviation from the origins of what we eat are raised.
